Young people recap their knowledge on electricity, energy stores and renewable energy, including a comparison of different renewable energy generation methods. We then discuss the link between renewable energy and electric cars, before young people are then challenged to build their own miniature electric cars in groups. The cars are then charged and tested on the racetrack, with the young people using their problem solving skills to perfect their cars and increase its efficiency to achieve the maximum distance possible. The young people use the cars to understand the relationship between voltage input and distance travelled, and then complete the session by attempting to reach a specified target distance.

This was a really impactful workshop for our year 7 students. It was great to see them working as a team to undertake problem solving and inquiry about electric vehicles. I would definitely recommend this workshop to any groups studying energy, electricity, circuits or even as a a Science Club activity.
The content of the session was ideal for our Y6 children, as it links in with one of their DT projects on controllable vehicles. We would happily use the company again for sessions like these.
