Provided by VSTEAM Education

Educational and CPD Talks Covering Wildlife and Nature Learning for Teachers and Educators

Steven Lewis-Neill is an experienced educator and speaker who has spent more than 19 years engaging children, teachers and families with practical science and nature learning. Originally trained as a primary school teacher, Steven worked as a class teacher and science coordinator before completing an MSc in Animal Behaviour. In 2007 he founded Wildworkshops, a programme that brings hands-on science and nature experiences into schools across the UK.

Steven has presented at public science events and festivals including the Big Bang Festival and has contributed to regional science conferences where he has demonstrated approaches to engaging children in enquiry-based science learning. These events have allowed him to share practical strategies with educators and science communicators, particularly around helping children develop curiosity about biodiversity and the environment. Through his speaking and educational work, Steven aims to inspire both children and educators

Engaging Whole-School Assemblies

Talks include:

  • Reconnecting Children With Nature in a Screen-Focused World
Children today are spending less time outdoors than any previous generation, yet their curiosity about the natural world remains strong when they are given the opportunity to explore it. In this talk I share insights from nearly two decades delivering hands-on nature workshops in schools across the UK, along with practical ideas for helping children reconnect with nature in both rural and urban settings.

  • Bringing Science Alive: Hands-On Nature Learning in Primary Schools
Many children experience science mainly through books and screens. Drawing on 19 years delivering wildlife and nature programmes in schools, this talk explores how hands-on encounters with minibeasts, habitats and ecosystems can bring science to life and spark genuine curiosity in the natural world.

Experienced Public Speaker

Alongside his public speaking, Steven regularly delivers professional development sessions and staff CPD for teachers, early years practitioners and education organisations. These sessions focus on building confidence in outdoor learning and supporting educators to use local wildlife, habitats and seasonal change as meaningful starting points for science learning in schools and early years settings.
