Cat Weatherill Storytelling Days School Workshops

Provided by Cat Weatherill

Fire up those imaginations!

Hello! I'm Cat and I've been a professional storyteller for twenty years. I tell many kinds of stories - Greek myths, world tales, fairy tales, ghost stories, true stories, nursery tales - and am passionate about taking them into schools. Listening to stories isn't just fun. Great storytelling fuels the imagination, builds empathy, delights and reassures, explains and inspires - and it definitely improves writing. A day dedicated to the magical power of storytelling is joyous for everyone. Let's make it happen!

Format

You can have a day built entirely of story sessions or a mixture of assemblies + class workshops. I will advise on what will work best for you :-)

Book a True Pro

As a professional Storyteller in Education for thirty years, I've worked with thousands of children worldwide, in hundreds of schools and nurseries. My sessions are perfectly pitched and age appropriate. I have full DBS and public liability insurance and always arrive with a smile!

Storytelling Sessions for Everyone

I happily tell stories to everyone, from Nursery to teens. My stories are always age appropriate: language, content & delivery. That really is the key to successful school storytelling. I have a beautiful Queen costume for World Book Day and special events  (see photo)

My sessions are high energy, very interactive and great fun. For the little ones I use puppets, props, music, songs and plenty of action rhymes. I also send a teaching video in advance so the children can confidently join in with a longer song.

For the older children, I use musical instruments, movement props and slides.

For teens, I find riddles + lateral thinking + spooky stories = a winning combination!

Storytelling Workshops

Speed Storytelling (Years 4 - 7) Have the whole class telling stories in just one hour! Noisy but great fun :-)

How to Tell a Great Ghost Story  (Years 5 - 8) I explain how storytelling works and tell a ghost story for the students to analyse my technique. There is usually time for some storytelling games too.

Story Quest (Years 2 - 4) A story spinning workshop for younger children. I bring my story chest and show how stories can be spun from objects. The children then spin their own stories using objects in the chest. Very hands-on.

Parent & Teacher Training

Parents and carers are always welcome to attend my school sessions. I also offer parent training sessions to encourage storytelling in the home. I offer CPD sessions in storytelling for teachers too.
