Secondary Maths Workshop for Schools

KS3 and GCSE Maths workshop for schools

The workshop developed by an Aerospace engineer following experience in supply maths tutoring in schools. A great deal of effort has gone to trial and test this maths workshop for schools. It is ideal for GCSE classroom revision. Students will learn curriculum-based maths through a mix of practicals and games. It is designed to engage those school students that lack motivation to learn maths and perfect for maths activity days at schools.

Format

Secondary: 3 sessions x 1 hr 30 mins or
2 sessions x 2 hrs 30 mins or
1 session x 5 hrs
(20 participants per session)

• Y7 - Y11

Maths in a Box

We have developed unique concepts to relate calculations to real-life. For example, we use real-world maps to carry out scaling and distance calculations combined with trigonometry. This is what makes our maths workshop stand out from the rest.

Learning Outcomes and Curriculum Links

Developing Proficiency in Algebra
Students will improve proficiency in fundamental algebraic concepts through hands-on experiences aligned with the GCSE Maths curriculum.
Application of Trigonometry in Practical Scenarios
Participants will actively apply trigonometric principles in real-life situations, leveraging maps for scaling and distance calculations.
Advancing Problem-Solving Abilities
Students will enhance their problem-solving skills by actively participating in engaging activities like the probability game. This experience necessitates logical thinking and result analysis, aligning with the problem-solving components of the GCSE Maths curriculum.
Hands-On Application of Geometry and Measurements
The workshop will solidify understanding in geometry and measurements through interactive exercises, such as bridge-building and scaling activities.
Effective Preparation for the GCSE Maths Exam
Participants will be more prepared for their GCSE Maths exam by practicing essential volume and density calculations, tackling exam-style questions, and revisiting crucial curriculum topics.

Requirements

  • Must remain in the same venue/classroom for the duration of the whole day to run all of the sessions.
  • The classroom/hall/venue must have desks and chairs for all students. Normal classrooms are fine.
  • Pencils/pens, calculators and rubbers for all students.
  • Preferable: A computer/laptop with projector/interactive whiteboard or smart screen with sound enabled.
