Coding with Botley Workshop

A robotics workshop for younger children

This is a beginner workshop that is designed to teach early years and KS1 students coding with the popular Botley robot. The children will use logic and step coding with Botley to perform a variety of tasks including, turning, performing loops, line following, detecing objects, and making sounds. Reception: 3 sessions x 1 hr 15 mins
(20 participants per session)
Primary: 3 sessions x 1 hr 15 mins
(30 participants per session)

Age Groups

EYFS - Y1, Reception

Step Coding

Code Botley to follow directions using a remote programmer.
Code Botley to get from A to B using step cards.

Line Following

Watch Botley follow a line using it's sensors.

Object Detection

Code Botley to avoid hitting objects.

Other Coding Activities

Use Botley to make sound patterns.
Use secret codes to turn Botley in to dinosaur, ghost, police car, and more.

Day Itinerary*

Reception & EYFS

Intro - Introduce children to the Botley, how the robot works, and the lesson plan for the day.
Practical - Guide children how to turn Botley left, right, forward, back around using coding cards.
Practical - Challenge the children to navigate Botley to perform a series of movement tasks.
Practical - Create a path and watch Botley use it's sensors to move around on it's own following a line.
Practical - Code Botley to detect objects on it's path.
