A STEM Showcase School Workshops

Provided by VSTEAM Education

A STEM showcase is ideal for exhibition and festivals

A STEM Showcase is an interactive, hands-on exhibition where students of all ages can explore and engage with a variety of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths) equipment and activities. During a STEM Showcase, we set up multiple tables or stands featuring different STEM-themed stations. These are designed to spark curiosity, encourage exploration, and support learning through play and discovery.

Each group of children typically spends 25–30 minutes exploring the stations at their own pace, making this format ideal for reaching a large number of pupils over the course of a school/event day.

Format

Typically, one set-up consists of four tables and can deliver 10 sessions of 25–30 minutes during a school event day, accommodating around 20 participants per session—that’s up to 200 participants.

Age Groups

EYFS - Y13, Adult Learners, Reception, Higher Education, Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Exhibition Stand Content

A exhibition set-up will include 4 or more tables/stands consisting of the following equipment*:

  • Coding stations and mini robots
  • Microscopes
  • Bridge structures
  • Water tornados/whirlpools
  • Cardstock aircraft gliders
  • Sling rockets
  • Mini windmills

Other items may include a drone and additional robots.

* The equipment may vary depending on the type of the event and will be agreed before the event.

Format and Delivery

We typically split the total number of children (up to 200) into groups and rotate them throughout the school day or event. Therefore, the session lengths may differ. At the start of each session, the STEM instructor will give a short demonstration on how to use the STEM items. Everything will be set up in advance. Each table will have clear instructions, although most activities are very straightforward since all materials are pre-prepared.

Some Examples:

  • Sling rockets: Children can pick them up and launch them straight away.
  • Mini robots: These will be pre-programmed so children can immediately use the remote controls to drive them.
  • Microscopes: These will already be focused, allowing children to look through and observe plant or bacteria cells.
  • Aircraft gliders: Children can pick them up and throw them to explore how wing flaps affect motion
