British Science Week: Change and Adapt School Workshops

Primary School Workshop

From understanding natural selection and evolution to examining the physical principles behind changing states of matter, this workshop offers a series of interactive demonstrations and activities. Students will engage with concepts such as heat transfer, air pressure, gravity, and material properties, making for an educational adventure through the realms of science and adaptation.

Age Groups

EYFS - Y6, Nursery, Reception, Special Educational Needs (SEN)

Workshop Activities

  • Adaptation Challenge: Engage in thought-provoking exercises to explore how organisms adapt to their environments, highlighting the principles of natural selection and evolution.
  • Changing States Experiment: Conduct hands-on experiments to demonstrate heat transfer and state changes, understanding how different materials react to various conditions.
  • Air Pressure Dynamics: Experience the effects of air pressure and motion through interactive activities, learning about the principles of pressure and its impact on our environment.
  • Gravity in Action: Observe demonstrations to visualize gravity and its effects on different objects, offering a clear perspective on how gravity influences adaptation and movement.
  • Material Properties Exploration: Explore the properties of various materials and how they adapt to different environmental conditions, from flexibility to durability.
  • Rocketry and Motion: Engage in activities that examine the principles of force and motion, understanding how these principles enable adaptation in technology and nature.
