The Kobranie method is based on the idea that everyone can make music. It is a playful and accessible musical form in which improvisation, ensemble playing and creativity are central. The focus is on 'creating without judgement', so that everyone feels the freedom to try out new ideas. The ‘conductor’ creates a common language through gestures. Every gesture invites musical play, so that instant compositions are created from guided improvisation. Music improvisation enhances musicality, sparks creativity, improves listening skills, builds confidence and encourages collaboration. Neuroscience of music has discovered the profound benefits of music improvisation. When improvising, you use different parts of your brain, not just the thinking part. Oxytocin is released in the blood stream which makes you feel great and naturally harmonises and strengthens the bond between people.
All Year Groups
Improvising is a fantastic way to draw on skills that your pupils already have developed, as well as trying out new techniques. It can help focus on the major aspects of music: rhythm, melody, and harmony. Before music was written down, improvised music was used to communicate thoughts, ideas and stories. In many cultures, improvising is an integral part of their musical traditions.
The Kobranie Method is a method for guided musical and performative improvisation in which a system of sign language is used to direct a group of improvising musicians. The focus is not on creating aesthetically pleasing art, instead the focus is on saying yes to everything that arises and to let go of any judgements towards ourselves and others. It is be a fun and connective experience in which everyone has the space to express themselves!

Many thanks for your excellent workshops last week - the feedback from staff and children has been very positive! I thought the session I saw was so well paced and enabled all the children to participate, regardless of experience or ability. The final performance was brilliant and engaged the audience despite their excitement at the prospect of half term! Hopefully you will be able to visit us again in the future.
Children love banging on drums, playing rhythms and making music. It is a great way to blow off steam and is a great team building exercise. Drumming encourages socialization, self-expression, communication, and motor development. African dancing or South African gumboot dancing is another way to create joyful memories. We work with children of different ages and abilities: nursery-, primary- and secondary school children and children with special needs. Our educational drum workshops are about percussion and rhythm, teamwork, discipline, listening skills, building self-confidence and having fun!
