Mary Seacole Workshop for Schools

Provided by The Drama Hut

Travel back to the 1850s with Mary Seacole and explore her life, story, and role in the Crimean War.

During this workshop we travel back in time to the 1850’s with Mary Seacole, to both remember and explore her extraordinary life and work. We listen to her incredible story and experience life as a nurse during the Crimean war. Led by Mary herself, the children will explore the Victorian era and Mary’s place within it. Using our imaginations, through improvisation, we will travel to the Crimea and Mary’s 'British Hotel' for the wounded. With the use of role play, we will have an opportunity to become a soldier or nurse working during the Crimea, perform a poem about Mary’s life with song, action, sound and movement and also create a time line to place Mary Seacole firmly within a historical time frame!
